Gilmour Art
Michael Gilmour of Gilmour Art is a passionate Australian artist based in Mortlake Victoria, where he breathes life into canvas through the vibrant strokes of his paintbrush using his favourite medium of oils. He finds inspiration in the ever-changing hues of the sea, the tranquility of rolling hills and the play of light on water and waves. Capturing these fleeting moments with oil paints results in breathtaking and timeless pieces that transport viewers to idyllic settings.
His art not only captures the essence of nature, but he also conveys the emotions and memories associated with these places through an impressionistic rendering.
“Art takes nature as its model.” Aristotle

about Michael…
Hailing from Glasgow Scotland he came to Australia in the 1960’s as a wee young boy with his parents. After living in a number of places around Australia they settled in Ocean Grove in Victoria, perhaps where his love of seascapes was borne. In his late teen years he studied art at TAFE and found a natural ability and loved it.
Adult life intervened and Michael ended up in finance, a far cry from his beloved art which took a back seat, though always a niggle on his mind. Still in a creative field he started his own bagpipe reed making business and yes, being a Scot he does play the bagpipes!
Circumstances saw him settling in Mortlake Victoria, where he still makes the reeds, but now has time to dabble in his paints, oils being the medium of choice. He built a little studio out in the back where he pumps up the music, lights the incense and sings as loud as he can while the brushes are flying across the canvas. He’s in his happy place creating beautiful works of art. Maybe this was how the timeline was meant to be all along, to find art again later in life. We are so glad he did.
Oh and if you’re wondering the connection - Gilmour Art is married to Buster and Coco - truly a creative couple.
Michael loves the simple life the country brings him …
